  2. Address early grades at your school level (K & 1, 6th Grade, 9th Grade). Analyze school-wide data to determine needs at grade levels and times of year when challenges occur more often.

School attendance data are provided reporting percent of students with satisfactory attendance, at-risk attendance, chronic absenteeism, and severe chronic absenteeism. The two-year trend allows for comparison of attendance over time and an indication of how strategies implemented to improve attendance are working.

Goal 1:
In 2017-2018 the grade level with the most students absent was Third Grade 62 students in all. The students who qualify for At Risk 43 students (31% )Chronic 14 students (10% ) and Severe Chronic 5 students(4%)
Our goal is to reduce the number of students with chronic absenteeism by 1% student for the 2018-2019 school year.

Goal 2 
In 2017-2018 the grade level with the most Severe Chronic students absent was Kindergarten with 6 students( 7%) in all. Our goal is to reduce the number of students with  severe chronic absenteeism by 1% student for the 2018-2019 school year.

Goal 3
In 2017-2018 the grade levels with the most satisfactory attendance for both 1st and second quarter was Fourth & Fifth Grades 158 students in all. Our goal is to increase the number of satisfactory students by 10% for the 2018-2019 school year.


 

 

 

2: Tier 1 Strategies for Attendance

Tier 1 Strategies for Attendance

Tier 1 Strategies for Attendance - Address all five core ingredients. Tier 1 is aimed at 100% of students, parents, school staff, and community stakeholders. This is where you cast a wide net. Strategies are general to reach the largest audiences and include all employees and stakeholders.

Tiered plans will include strategies and interventions for the 5 core ingredients.

Tier 1 Strategies for Attendance-
Monitor

  • Administrator responsible for school attendance will ensure that all teachers have completed the attendance brainshark traing for taking classroom attendance at the elementary level. The administrators will maintain a record of teachers who have completed the training.
  • Monitoring attendance-taking procedures will take place weekly by the IMT and as requested by administration.
  • Twice a quarter School Counselors will moniter BASIS and Data Warehouse to set goals for students; Set school wide attendance recognitions.
  • During Team Leader Meetings Administartion, Support Team and Team Leaders can access and review our school attendance reports to monitor attendance and look for attendance trends.
Engage Students & Families-
  • School staff is encouraged to reach out to parents by phone or email to let them know the importance of attendance, especailly in the Primary Grades.
  • The attendance clerk will check the attendance line daily.
  • Administration and Support Staff : We offer parents an opportunity to stay involved by having programs and presentations from their children in school. This allows us all to celebrate and students are more apt to be involved when they are preparing for a parent event; We do celebrate students each month.
  • Attendance information will be put on our school webpage to ensure parents have all the information pertaining to attendance such as Policies, Procedures Attendance line, If you have a question who to call etc...)
Recognize Good and Improved Attendance
  • School Based attendance recognition events throughout the year. Most Improved Attendance; Super Attendance Awards are given quarterly. 
  • Administration/Support: When checking Report Cards puts a sticker or a note on each report card that has perfect attendance.
Provide Personal Outreach
  • Acknowledging students/parents on their report card for Great attendance.
  • Integrate information about attendance at every parent function.
  • Kindergarten Round Up is a great tool to orient our incoming Kindergarten so they know the expectations and the importance of great attendance.
Remove Barriers
  • School provides free breakfast for all students.All day! Every day!

Tier 2 Strategies and Interventions to Improve Attendance

Tier 2 Strategies and Interventions to Improve Attendance - Address all five core ingredients. Tier 2 identifies students using early warning indicators to make connections with students and families at the onset of the school year or emergence of patterns of non-attendance. Early warning indicators include prior year chronic absenteeism, 3 or more absences in the first 4 weeks of enrollment, more than 10% of school days absent in any time period from the beginning of enrollment.

- Tier 2 represents between 10-20% of students at all schools in Broward County. This is true at individual schools and across the District.

- Chronic Absenteeism: Absent for 10% or more school days. These absences include excused, unexcused, and suspensions as days of instruction missed.

Tier 2 Strategies for Attendance-
Monitor-

  • The Leadership Team will review the non attendance report from OptiSpool during leadership team meetings. Students will be identified and Teachers will be notified which students are at risk.
  • Teachers will monitor attendance using Pinnacle and BASIS and consult with support staff for redirecting  absenteeism behavior.
  • School Counselor will monitor attendance along with the leadership team to include our school social worker.
Engage Students & Families-
  • School Counselors to create a student success plan for attendance for those students who on the edge of being at risk or chronic.
  • Use our staff and school social worker to find out if the family has other needs that are not being met (.ie food clothes, literacy, transportation etc...)
Recognize Good and Improved Attendance
  • School Based attendance recognition events throughout the year. Set goals that are attainable.
  • Celebrate each students success as it relates to attendance goals.
Provide Personal Outreach
  • Parent Teacher Confernces please invite Support Staff and/or Administration to sit in these meetings.
Remove Barriers
  • School Social Worker connects with families to establish a rapport and a relationship and to provide any wrap around services needed for the families.
  • Involve school nurse when neccesary to follow up on medically fragile students.

Tier 3 Interventions - Address all five core ingredients. Tier 3 is the highest level of intervention and support for students that are absent 20% or more school days during the year.

- At most schools, Tier 3 interventions are utilized for about 5% (or less) of the student population.

Tier 3 Strategies for Attendance-
Monitor-

  • Attendance data is one one the main data tools in referring a student to Collaborative Problem Solving Team(CPST) putting the child through RtI may help uncover bigger issues the family may be experiencing. Administration will collaborate with RtI team to ensure every students is receiving an attendance intervention. 
  • Identify students with a history of severe chronic attendance( missing more than 20% of the school year)
  • Leadership Team which consists of Administartion Team Leaders and Support Team will continue to monitor and identify students and make attendance compacts with families to encourage home-school-community involvement.
Engage Students & Families-
  • BTIP may initiate truancy letters to hold meetings with social staf, district staff, and /or the state attorney's office.
  • Refer students/families to appropriate service agencies as needed.
  • Utilize best practices from our District for example Sporting Events that have been able to decrease chronic absences and increase satisfactory attendance.
Recognize Good and Improved Attendance
  • The School Counselor will Create an Attendance Success Plan  and it will be created by parent, student, and school personnel.
  • Tangible incentives for students who are meeting their attendance goals.
Provide Personal Outreach
  • Have a Check-In person daily that way the student has someone they can go to and be accountable to at arrival and dismissal.
  • Ensure consistant and positive contact with parents.
  • Follow up on each attendance after initial Attendance Success Plan meeting.
Remove Barriers
  • Implement agreed upon family intervention plan. Monitor for progress.
  • Connect students  with chronic physical and/or mental heath providers.
