10 Year Anniversary of
"My Soul Is a Witness"
The Old Dillard Museum commemorates the people, places, and events that have challenged and inspired the African-American community of Fort Lauderdale for generations. Coming in 2011, Old Dillard Museum plans to partner with the City of Fort Lauderdale as they celebrate their centennial. Fort Lauderdale's rich cultural heritage will be celebrated with exciting events and cultural programs such as Cannonball Jazz Series, Twenty-Some May, and Juneteenth. The museum offers yearlong cultural village workshops with visual artists like Nzingah Oniwosan, storyteller Sista Idya, and spoken word artist Alexis Caputo. Next year, as we focus on our 10 year anniversary of "My Soul Is a Witness," look for more exciting, new workshops in a variety of cultural, creative, and scholarly fields, including Bead Making, Photography, Motivation, Egyptian Yoga, African Dance, Spoken Word and African-American Folklore Crafts. Join us and energize your minds with creative togetherness.

Other Activities and Programming
Museum activities include guided tours, films, lectures, workshops, classes, conferences, collaborative museum exhibitions, displays and ethnic celebrations. These educational activities serve schoolchildren, community members, and patrons from all cultural backgrounds.
Our Philosophy
The overall framework for the Old Dillard Museum's artistic and programmatic philosophy is community. The organization seeks to integrate cultural and educational programs with the heritage, revitalization and development of the Sistrunk corridor of Fort Lauderdale in Broward County. The predominantly African-American community in this corridor has a strong historical attachment to Dillard High School, other predominantly black high schools in Broward County and to other cultural endeavors that were common to African-Americans in the county, state and nation.
The museum’s philosophy is to present the best practices and highest quality of visual and performing arts to inspire community self-esteem, cooperative activism and an appreciation of cultural diversity.
