Parents,

As all of us are aware, the Broward County School System has not been exempt from the economic difficulties that our country has been experiencing.  Consequently, our school has had to make some difficult choices in order to minimize the inevitable impact on students, and maximize the educational advantages Nova High School has always provided.   Some electives have been lost, some classes are larger than we would wish and even textbook availability has been impacted.  Some of this is within the purview of the school, but much of it is not even within our control; we are operating within a system stretched beyond its capabilities.

Within the boundaries I am given as Principal, I have made every choice with the students’ best interests always at the forefront.  We have saved our art program, our drama program and our top ten nationally ranked debate team; we still prioritize our Advance Placement program and will continue to serve our vocational students and athletes.  Our faculty is trying their best to adapt as well, utilizing every scarce resource to ensure that we are acting to reduce the impact on students.

As parents, you can help your students adapt to the economic realities by working with their teachers to ensure their success and by helping to demand more resources for education.  Until that happens, rest assured that Nova High School, and I, as Principal, will be acting to the best of our abilities to help your children achieve their maximum potential.

John R. LaCasse
Principal
