The Broward County Association of Media Specialists (BCAMS) announce the winners of the "School Library Media Month Video" contest. Two students from Heron Heights Elementary, Kailey N. and August S., created a video, entitled "B.E.E.P." The Broward Enterprise Education Portal (BEEP) online portal provides “Digital Doorways” for all Broward County Public School students to access current and relevant online resources. Congratulations to Kailey and August for a job well done!
Banyan Elementary celebrated the grand opening of their brand new library media center on Friday, April 27th, 2012 with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. The 8,656 square feet free-standing building includes a teacher resource room, media training room, state-of-the-art TV studio for the school's WBAN morning show, video conferencing equipment, conference room and a computer lab with 20 laptops.
In conjunction with the implementation of the Common Core Language Arts standards in Kindergarten, the Department of Learning Resources & Instructional Materials has aligned the Florida Research Model FINDS with the Common Core Language Arts standards. The FINDS research process provides a framework for project-based learning for students in grades K-12. Using FINDS, students can develop research skills to investigate, analyze, organize, synthesize, collaborate, create and share knowledge. With the theme, "Get on Board With 21st Century Learning," the Broward County Association of Media Specialists (BCAMS) held a very special reception for Superintendent Robert W. Runcie, on February 1, 2012 at Virginia Shuman Young Elementary's library media center. School Board members, parents, teachers, students, administrators, and library media specialists welcomed Superintendent Runcie by showcasing library media centers as the "heart" of our schools and how our media specialists serve as the "change agents" that promote critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration, creativity, and innovation.
