Essential Question:
How will choosing healthy options make a difference in my life?


Project Desciption:
C.H.O.I.C.E.S! Choosing Healthy Options Improves Everyday Success
Students created video tutorials of exercise routines for a healthier lifestyle. Students created a brochure of healthy lunches. Students created an interactive storybook, iMovies, and Keynote on district character trait development

Students created iMovies on effects of misuse of tobacco, alcohol, drugs, or being a gang member.

Teachers/Classes:
Mrs. Brown (Science K - 5): Explored the question, "How can we safely carry our backpacks?" Student research indicated that children should not carry more than 20% of their own body weight. Twenty middle school students were compared with twenty elementary fifth grade students. Students used iPhoto and Comic Life to create posters showing proper and improper backpack carrying techniques using photos from classes practicing yoga postures to strengthen back muscles.

Mrs. Cameron (P.E.): Students explored the question, "How are my exercise choices making a difference in my life? Students in Ms. Cameron's P.E. classes created informational movies

Mrs. Fritz (5th Grade): researched a variety of topics relating to the importance of making healthy nutrition choices. The students investigated the topics of Healthy Snacks, The New Food Guide Pyramid, healthy Lunches, Healthy Choices at Fast food Resturatns, Adversing Techniques, Iron Fortified Cereal, and Bringing vs. Buying Your Lunch. Their discoveries were presented using a numerous multimedia tools including digital still and video camera, iMovie, iPhoto, Keynote, and Garage Band.

Mrs Hysell, Mrs. Shore, (5th Grade) and Mrs. Gordon (5th Grade DHH ): classes created a collaborative project based on the district's character education program. They explored the broad question, "How can I make a difference in my school by being all that I can be?"

Mrs. Hysell's 5th grade students to researched the character traits of Kindness and utilized the software applicaitons of GarageBand, iPhoto, and Keynote.

Mrs. Shore- The class was divided into groups and each group had the task of researching, organizing and planning a digital presentation about the character traits of honesty, manners, and responsibility.

Mrs. Gordon “What is tolerance?” Students created a keynote presentation about building up and tearing down the walls of tolerance. They explored the importance of the need to sometimes be a leader, as well as the positive and negative effects of being a follower.


Mrs. Jindracek's (5th Grade): explored the questions “How would you say “NO” to the use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco and joining a street gang?”

Students were responsible for researching how the misuse of tobacco, alcohol, drugs, or being a gang member can negatively affect their lives. After researching the students were responsible for planning and organizing a multimedia presentation to showcase their findings.

Mrs. Deambrogio (Media Specialist): Created web pages for teacher projects as well as supported student research on project development as the fifth grade students researched copyright law in media, music, and written materials.
