Essential Question:
How has technology increased our understanding
of the processes that shape the Earth?

Project Desciption:
Fifth grade students conducted research with the assistance of the Media and Technology Specialists. They then created multimedia presentations showing what they learned related to Earth Science and the processes of earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes, hurricanes, weathering, erosion and how technology has changed the way we understand these phenomena. Students also investigated ancient myths associated with these processes.

Teachers/Classes:

Ms. Kelly Finn and Ms. Dana Kastner - Students focused on how earthquakes have shaped the Earth over a period of time. The students then created movies about earthquakes, inspired by Bill Nye, the Science Guy

Ms. Annmargareth Marousky and Ms. Lisa Reyes - Students focused on how hurricanes and tornadoes have impacted the Earth through science and literature.  They then created a commercial enticing viewers to watch their student-centered game show, "Are you Smarter than a Nova Titan?" to test their knowledge about tornadoes and hurricanes.

Ms. Lois McMullen - Students focused on weathering and erosion found in our National Landmarks. They studied Yosemite Valley, Death Valley, the Grand Canyon, the Utah Monument, and sink holes and then created movies, demonstrating what they learned.

Ms. Laura Slick and Ms. Kendra Ward - Students focused on how volcanoes have shaped the Earth over time and Ancient Myths associated with volcanoes. Their research and pictures were then compiled in a student-created book and shared with quests through movies.

Ms. Cynthia Zimmerman - Media Specialist - Teachers and students used identified digital and hard copy resources from the media center for research. Ms. Zimmerman also created the presentation invitation and program.
