Broward Schools Digital Classrooms:

An overview

 

Creating digital classrooms for Broward students is one step in the district’s efforts to create technologically literate students able to succeed in a digital age.

 

What are Digital Classrooms?

Digital classroom contain 21st century tools for teaching and learning.  These tools include infrastructure support technology (wiring and electrical) as well as digital devices (laptops and LCD projectors) and resources for use by students and teachers.

 

In 2006 changes were made to the Ed Specs to ensure that all newly constructed classrooms were Standard Digital Classrooms. 

 

What are the Classroom Tools for the Digital Classrooms?

 

Digital classrooms are customized for individual schools by adding items from the recommended list of “Options and Digital Tools” to the Standard Digital Classroom outlined in the ed specs.

 

Standard Digital Classrooms Equipment (new construction)

1. Wireless carts of student laptops (1:6 ratio for entire school)

2. Teacher Laptop

3. Mounted LCD projector

4. 80 x 60 pull down screen

5. Lockable media cabinet

a. DVD/VCR with TV Tuner

b. Sound System with wireless microphone

6. Laser Printer

7. Document Camera

8. Data ports

9. Wireless coverage

10. Wall Mounted control panel and equipment connection plate

 

Recommended Options and Additional Digital Tools for Addition to Standard Digital Classroom

1. Interactive whiteboard

2. Interactive tablets (or slates)

3. Student response system

4. Digital camera

5. Video camera

6. MP3 player

7. Headphones

8. Assistive Technologies as needed by school

 

In 2008-2009, the district helped Title One schools with the creation of digital classrooms based on the standard model but enhanced with tools – an interactive whiteboard, student response devices, and document cameras-- to engage students during teaching and learning.

 

Enhanced Digital Classrooms (as installed in Title One Schools)
