To have the students understand and implement the order of operations correctly. Within this lesson the students will be given an immediate response letting them know that something is done incorrectly or out of sequence.

lesson overview:

  1. We will take an overlook on what PEMDAS is and what it means.
  2. Review the correct order in which PEMDAS should be completed.
  3. We will then have the students play a game which involves the order of operations and will not allow them to move on if it is not done correctly. Being that the game is a race to the finish it will reinforce the concept that you need to know the steps for mathematical operations and be able to complete them quickly. In fact the quicker you can perform the operations the better your chances of advancing and surpassing your peers in this competition.edge from activities

How does this help students master the objectives?

This method allows my students to have a good time while learning essential material. This method versus traditional method keeps my students engaged and forces them to want to do better rather than having to do better. While in a classroom students need to want to learn and want to succeed, using this technology makes it a fun competition where students don’t want to lose and are racing to be the victor and excel past their peers. Without realizing the effects the students are taking every day material, applying it correctly, and enjoying it all at the same time.
