September 27, 2012 -On September 27, 2012 the School Board refinanced Certificates of Participation, Series 2005B which were originally issued with
a variable interest rate which changed weekly. The refinancing converted this
Series to a fixed rate of 2.258%. This conversion locked in this historical low
interest rate through June 30, 2021.
September 12, 2012
On September 12, 2012 the School District converted the interest rate mode
of the outstanding Certificates of Participation, Series 2006B from a weekly
interest rate mode to an index floating rate mode. The change in mode will
result in a decrease in annual debt service.

Broward County Public Schools is the sixth largest public school district in the nation and the nation’s largest fully accredited public school district.
Broward County Public Schools has won $150,000 in scholarships as finalist for the 2011 Broad Prize for Urban Education. The Broad (rhymes with "road") Prize is an annual award that honors the four large school districts that demonstrate the strongest student achievement and improvement while narrowing achievement gaps between income and ethnic groups.
The District also earned the inaugural Award for Excellence in Financial Management from Washington, D.C.-based Council of the Great City Schools.
For the 15th consecutive year, the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) named The School Board of Broward County, Florida recipient of the Meritorious Budget Award for its 2010/11 annual budget.

The School Board of Broward County is the first school district in the nation to receive the Council of Great City Schools’ “Award for Excellence in Financial Management.” The award represents a significant achievement by the school district’s Board of Education, Superintendent and administrative staff who support the highest standards in financial accountability and controls needed to safeguard and protect the financial integrity of the district. Their efforts reflect an extraordinary dedication to the excellence in financial management and demonstrate outstanding stewardship of taxpayer dollars with the ultimate beneficiaries being the children who attend public school in Broward County.
