We ask that all students and parents take the time to review the following information.
Textbooks |
| Textbooks distributed in school are merely on loan to the students. By law each parent or guardian is held liable for any loss, destruction, or unnecessary damage of books. Students must return books when directed to do so by the principal or teacher in charge. Fines are assessed for any loss, destruction, or unnecessary damage. |
| |
Supplies and Fees |
| Students must be equipped each day with appropriate supplies such as paper, pencil, notebooks, etc. An individual teacher may require additional materials. |
| |
Attendance |
| All students are expected to be in attendance and on time EVERY DAY unless absent because of (a) illness of student, (b) illness of immediate family member, (c) death in family, (d) religious holiday of the student's own specific faith, (e) subpoena by a law enforcement agency, (f) family trips, (g) medical or dental appointments, (h) field trips and school sponsored functions.
To have an absence excused, we request that the parent/guardian call the attendance office before 10:00 a.m. each day the student is absent. The phone number is 754-323-3302. If the parent/guardian is unable to call, a note must be sent to the attendance office which states the date(s) of the absence and the reason. Points may be deducted from final grades for unexcused absences. |
| |
Early Dismissal |
| The parent/guardian must come to the Front Office by 3:00 p.m. to sign out the student. With proper identification the student will then be called from his/her classroom for early dismissal. |
| |
Address/Phone # Changes |
| Students spend a minimum of seven and one-half hours a day at school. Situations do occur which require immediate telephone contact with parents. Likewise, important school information is relayed to parents by mail throughout the year. It is the responsibility of the PARENT to immediately contact the office when there is a change in home address, home telephone number, or work telephone number. |
| |
Late Arrivals |
| In order to excuse a late arrival, the parent/guardian must accompany the student to the attendance office and sign the student in. |
Withdrawals |
| Students withdrawing from school must have their parents notify the Registrar's Office in writing at least one day in advance of withdrawal. A student will receive a withdrawal form on the last day in attendance. The withdrawal form must be signed-off by each teacher and the librarian, confirming that all books have been returned and all responsibilities have been cleared. |
| |
Make-Up Work |
| All students are expected to make up class work missed during an excused absence. For absences due to: (a) illness of student, (b) illness of immediate family member, or (c) death in the family, the student has two days to make up the work for each day the student is absent, not counting the day of return. It is the student's responsibility to request make-up work from his/her teachers when he/she returns to class.
For prearranged excused absences due to: (a) religious holidays, (b) subpoena, (c) family trips, (d) medical or dental appointments, (e) field trips or school sponsored activities, it is the student's responsibility to submit assignments on the day after the day of return, unless previous arrangements have been made with the teacher. In order to secure a permitted absence, a note must be given to the attendance office one week prior to the absence and must state the reason for the absence. The student will then be given a permitted absence form that needs to be signed by all teachers and returned to the attendance office.
Where there is an extended illness, of more than three school days, special arrangements may be made for securing home assignments by calling the Grade Level Office. Please allow the teachers 24 hours to have prepared work ready for pick-up at Student Services. |

Transportation |
| Bus transportation is available to all Indian Ridge Middle School students who live more than two miles from the school site. Students are to ride only the bus to which they have been assigned.Student conduct on the bus must conform with the bus driver's regulations. This is important for the safety of everyone. Any repeated and/or serious violations may result in suspension from the school bus. If a student misses the bus he/she should immediately come to the office and request permission to call home. Parents should have a prearranged plan of action with their children if he/she misses the bus, or if there is an emergency dismissal. If buses are late in the morning, students are to remain at the bus stop until the bus arrives. If the buses are late in the afternoon, students must wait at school, unless permission is given by the parents to go home in another manner. We anticipate students being dropped off in the mornings and picked up in the afternoon. We ask all the parents for their cooperation in dropping off and picking up students in the designated areas to insure maximum student and parent safety. Students are not to be on school grounds until fifteen minutes before the beginning of the school day, unless students are to be participating in the breakfast program. |
