Welcome to Field Experience!
The
School Board of Broward County, Florida (SBBC) works with institutions
of higher learning to provide on-the-job “field experiences” for
preservice education students. The objectives of the SBBC Field
Experience Program are firmly rooted in the skills, knowledge, and
competencies required for successful teaching. The Field Experience
Department of Human Resource Development is committed to supporting
the recruitment and retention of quality teaching professionals.
College and university students are given
opportunities for field experience at various levels of their
educational careers.
Additional information regarding the Field Experience
Program can be found in the Field Experience Handbook at:

Early Field Experience
|
For freshmen and sophomores, this component of the
program includes classroom observations, tutoring, and mentoring.
These students may not teach as they have not yet had methods
courses. |
|
Field Experience |
For juniors and seniors, the purpose of field
experience is to implement classroom theories in “real world”
classrooms. Opportunities for these students to teach will be
provided by cooperating teachers. Cooperating teachers must
complete an evaluation instrument for each field experience
student. |
|
Practicum |
Extended field experience is usually completed the
semester before student teaching and requires 150 hours of
classroom time during one semester. |
|
Student Teaching/Internship |
Organized and directed by a college/university and
supervised by a cooperating teacher and college/university faculty
member for 16 consecutive weeks. |
