LITERATURE SEARCHES

WHY CONDUCT A LITERATURE SEARCH?

1.  To Formulate or Narrow a Question

  • what experiences others have had in your chosen area of concern
  • reasons why a particular problem or challenge may have occurred.
  • If your question was too broad, you may begin to discover a solution emerging out of your search of the literature.

2. To Decide Upon A Course of Action

  • Once you have gathered a number of viable and successful approaches that might be applied to yur own situation, you can choose one of those alternatives to try with your own students/clients.
  • Benchamark on other organizations both like yours and not like yours - how have other professionals dealt with a similar problem.

3. To Gain Insight into your Project's Progress or Outcomes

  • Build Research Base - As your Action Research project progresses, you may find it helpful to continue searching the literature in order to buid your research base, fine tune your action plan, or to increase understanding of data being gathered
  • Delve deeper and expand knowledge thus expanding rationale for selecting targeted strategy.
