1. The Action Research Coach

This section is about the job description of the action research coach in the school setting.  It is important that the coach perceives herself or himself as one who challenges and supports people, giving them the gift of his or her presence.

 Coaching is a journey that makes a difference in the life of one person, a group, or an institution. Ideally an action research coach is most effective with a team of four or five action researchers. The coach is most productive when he or she is also completing an action research project along with his team. Included are some suggestions for activities for study groups.

The coach can vary the section covered at the meetings, according to the needs of his or her group.

The Role of the Coach

» Chairs the study group meeting.

» Helps build vision and shape values.

» Provides activities for study group to effectively evaluate their own and others work.

» Challenges and supports people in achieving higher levels of performance.

» Provides answers, or finds where to get them.

» Ensures participants stay focused.

» Monitors progress continuously.
