Information & Technology (IT) developed the Go Green Program for Output Reduction to help schools and departments implement environmentally friendly programs. The Go Green Program’s goal is to help reduce the consumption of paper and supplies for printers, copiers, fax machines and other output devices.
The Program has proven successful since the pilot phase in 2008-09. IT conducted three promotional campaigns to encourage schools to create Green Teams and implement their own Go Green Plan. Since it's inception, 78 schools participated and reported savings of almost $520,000 in their operating budgets. Their savings included a 12% reduction in paper, 31% reduction in toner, 21% reduction in equipment costs and 36% reduction in copier invoices. In addition to being good for the environment, these schools reported substantial cost savings in their operating budgets allowing them to redirect funds to support other educational projects at their schools.
