Deadlines are presented in the table. When the deadlines represent due dates to the Grants Administration & Government Programs Department, our Department will prepare the board item, make necessary copies, and forward applications to the funding agencies. When deadlines are directly to the funding agency, schools must send copies of submitted proposals to the GAGP Department (4th Floor, K.C. Wright) within 5 days following submission to funding agency so that board approval may be obtained.

Sprint Character Education Grant Program
The Sprint Character Education Grant Program accepts applications for funding of character education programs promoting leadership, youth volunteerism, character education, and school pride. Grants will fund the purchase of resource materials, supplies, teacher training and equipment that facilitates character education for K-12 students. Teachers in K-12 public schools are eligible to apply. Grant amounts are not listed; however, last year the program awarded 64 grants totaling $600,000 (average of $9,375). Applications must be submitted online between February 2 and February 27, 2009. ING Education's Unsung Heroes
Scholarship America and ING are inviting proposals from K-12 education professionals to recognize innovative teaching methods and techniques that improve learning. Projects are scored on their innovative methods, creativity, and their ability to positively influence the students. One hundred finalists will be selected nationally to receive awards of $2,000. Of the 100 finalists, three will be selected for additional awards of $25,000 for first place, $10,000 for second place, and $5,000 for third place. Full-time educators, teachers, principals, paraprofessionals or classified staff with effective projects that improve student learning are eligible to apply. Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation
The Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation is dedicated to improving the communities we serve through support of public education, community improvement projects and home safety initiatives. The Foundation only supports the following types of public education projects:
• Construction and Trades related education initiatives • Clean-up, landscaping and painting projects • Playground enhancements • Minor repair/renovation of public school buildings
All projects must benefit the community at large. Grants generally range from $5,000 to $25,000. Grant funds may be used to support materials, labor, marketing and other costs.

Mix It Up Grants
The Mix It Up program funds youth-directed activist projects that focus on identifying, questioning and crossing social boundaries in schools and communities. Projects should show youth leadership (projects envisioned by and to be implemented by youth activists); include collaborative efforts across social boundaries (different youth groups working together or school-based clubs working with community organizations); and be part of a continuing effort to identify, cross or challenge social boundaries..Grants are limited to $500.
Funds cannot be requested to support a Mix it Up at Lunch Day event.

Toshiba America Foundation's 7-12 Science and Math Education Grants
The Toshiba America Foundation provides grants to fund projects for grades 7-12 with potential for improving classroom teaching and learning in science and mathematics. The Foundation strongly encourages projects planned and led by individual teachers or teams of teachers for their own classrooms. Projects should enable teachers to use science and mathematics to engage student in positive and challenging learning experiences.
Projects that tap into the natural curiosity of students, enable them to frame their own scientific questions, and incorporate expertise of community partners are of particular interest.Grant amounts are up to $5,000. Funds may be requested for the purchase of project materials for student use only. Salaries, facility maintenance, textbooks, video production, audio-visual equipment and education research will not be funded. Classroom sets of calculators and computer hardware will not be funded. Summer or afterschool projects are not eligible.

Teaching Tolerance
K-12 Teachers are eligible to apply for grants of up to $2,000 for implementing tolerance and youth activism projects in their schools and communities. Projects should be small-scale, resourceful and student focused, promoting acceptance of diversity, peacemaking, community service or any other aspect of tolerance education.
Projects should be clearly defined, well-integrated and tailored to the needs/interests of learners and their communities; should involve community volunteers and in-kind contributions where possible; and should be sustainable in some way. Grant awards are up to $2,000. Salaries, stipends, presenter fees, travel, food, and computer hardware are not eligible for funding.
