Media Center Hours: from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
(Hours vary on exam days and early release days)

Media Center Policies Loan Periods:

Books may be checked out by students for 2 weeks at a time and with renewals available. Faculty members may borrow materials for 2 weeks at a time with renewals available. Please return items as soon as possible to allow others use of the resources as well.

Students and faculty are responsible for the safe return of materials checked out.

Computer Use:

Students and staff using the school’s computers agree to abide by the School Board of Broward County’s Acceptable Use Policy for Internet and Telecommunications Use. Remember that computers are for school use only.

Online resources:

Students have 24/7 access to our Online Resources. See the media staff for home access login IDs and passwords.

Individual Visits to the Media Center:

Students are welcome to visit the media center before or after school, during their lunch, or during class, provided they have a pass from their teacher.


Books

Everglades' Catalog of Books Search our electronic card catalog (named Destiny Quest).

Optional: For additional functionality, students and teachers may now log on to the system. As an example, patrons may now search both our listing of books and all of the electronic databases, such as World Book Advanced, Gale Cengage, and Grolier Encyclopedia.
Students: The username is the student ID number and the password is the birthday in mm/dd/yyyy format.
Teachers: The username is your P00000000 number and the password is the same number without the "P".

Broward County Library Search for a book in any Broward County Public Library

Sunlink Search all electronic catalogs in the state. These books can be checked out from any location by interlibrary loan.


eBooks

In order to server our patrons more effectively, the Everglades High School Media Center has purchased several book titles in electronic format. These books are commonly referred to as eBooks. We have purchased the books from two different suppliers, which results in two slightly different methods of accessing the books.

Due to licensing issues, we are not allowed to post usernames or passwords on our web site. Please see the media staff for user name and password.

Gale Cengage Learning:

Includes access to magazines, newspapers, reference books, information on authors and their works, opposing viewpoints, Internet links, a Spanish encyclopedia, and more.

Gale Reference Books:

A set of reference books with an ability to search all of the articles for keywords. You can access and search over a thousand sources for information. Gale Reference Books has the ability to download, print, copy, edit, and cite the source.

A general reference database with full-text articles exploring social, economic, scientific, health, historic, business, political and global issues.

Grolier Encyclopedia:

Includes Encyclopedia Americana, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, New Book of Knowledge, Lands and Peoples, New Book of Popular Science. Grolier Online provides a broad range of users with access to a wealth of authoritative editorial and engaging multimedia materials.

Marshall Cavendish Reference Books:

A set of reference books with an ability to search all of articles for key words. Can access and search over a thousand sources for information. Has the ability to download, print, copy, edit, and cite the source.

World Book Advanced Online:

An online encyclopedia that is focused towards middle and high school level students.


FCAT Explorer

FCAT Explorer is a practice and skills reinforcement tool based on Florida’s Sunshine State Standards.

Public school students and teachers can use the FCAT Explorer free of charge.
Log on and put the FCAT Explorer to work for you and your students.

Here is what you need to know to log on to www.FCATexplorer.com:

Step 1: On the main page click on "Students and Teachers"
Step 2: Username: last + first initial of first name
Password: student number (with the "X")
Step 3: Select the topic you'd like to work on.


Atomic Learning

Atomic Learning is a professionally created collection of online tutorials. Atomic Learning provides short tutorial videos that show how to operate specific computer programs.

The topics cover iMovie, Power Point, Excel, Dreamweaver, Inspiration and many, many more. It even includes Broward specific programs such as CAB.

This resource can be used by staff, students, and parents from school or home.See media staff for user name and password.


Teacher Resources

Professional Library Professional resources and software preview that includes 300 titles geared to school principals, curriculum departments, superintendents, and teachers, as well as the resources in the high school collection.

TeachingBooks.net An online collection of lesson plans, author programs, and book resources that provide differentiated learning strategies to support reading and literacy. Use TeachingBooks.net to look up any favorite author — from David Macaulay to J.K. Rowling, from Dr. Seuss to Shakespeare — or any title (fiction or nonfiction). You instantly get search results filled with online teaching / learning resources about that author or specific book.

 

BECON Broward School Broadcasting Network

Broward Virtual University The School Board of Broward County Virtual University houses a collection of FREE online content courses for Broward educators.

Digital Education Teacher Academy An excellent resource for teachers that would like to update their teaching style to fit with the 21st century classroom. The DETA program is offered in partnership with FAU and is comprised of two graduate level classes.

Best Practices The information here includes lesson plans, project-based learning plans, and web quests that are resources for the classroom teacher looking for "proven" strategies that infuse technology into the curriculum.
