The
Broward Advisors for Continuing Education program (BRACE) is
unique to Broward County Schools. Use this web page to
access the wealth of information available.
BRACE
Office Hours: Students may stop in our BRACE Center
through Room 318 before school or during the first 20 minutes
of lunch to ask a quick question, pick up information or to make
an appointment. During school hours, students
who have an appointment card will enter the
BRACE center through the Guidance Office (room 302).
Broward College has three new exciting announcements for graduating seniors. If interested, please see Mrs. Gitten in the BRACE office. First, scholarships are available at Broward College for those wishing to study at the South Campus in Hollywood. Located on Pines Boulevard just east of University Drive, South Campus has extra scholarship money for those wishing to pursue a Broward College degree there. You must be graduating and willing to start in the summer.
Next, money is available for the Broward Dream Scholarship. This scholarship will pay for 60 college level credits towards and A.A. or A.S. degree at Broward College. The academic terms will begin summer 2012, fall 2012, and spring 2013 up to a maximum of six semesters. You must be a first time-in college student with a weighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher and test college ready on the SAT or ACT.
The last new program is the Broward College Academy for Excellence which starts in the summer as a six week intensive summer bridge program requiring 6 credits that carries over into the fall semester as a full time student. If you successfully complete the summer program you are guaranteed a schedule for the start of the fall term. This program has been designed to help students work through there college coursework in a timely manner. There will only be 300 participants and is only for those students truly committed to their educational goals and personal growth. Attendance is mandatory and scholarships are available.

BRACE — Broward Advisors for Continuing Education is an excellent resource for students planning to continue with higher education after graduation from high school. Make sure to check this site often for the latest information on topics such as selecting a college or university to attend, available scholarships, and financial aid.
FACTS.org — Florida's Academic Counseling and Tracking for Students, which is sponsored by the Department of Education and the Florida Center for Advising & Academic Support. This free online advising web site helps students plan and track their education progress from middle school through college.
SAT and ACT Test Dates — This link will take you to a listing of this academic year's dates of testing and corresponding registration for the SAT and ACT.

Florida Bright Futures Scholarship — The Everglades High School Guidance Department has created an informative presentation about the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship program.

Now that you've started high school, it's important to keep track
of what you need to do before graduation. The decisions you make
now can affect high school graduation, higher ed admissions, Bright
Futures Scholarship awards, and Talented 20 eligibility. Planning
your life after graduation may seem overwhelming, but don't let it
get you down and don't wait until it's too late! Go online to FACTS.org the statewide student advising web site, made just for you!
FACTS.org provides loads of information you need for planning your
future. It was created by the Florida Department of Education and
is brought to you by the Florida Center for Advising and Academic
Support. You'll find resources for planning high school courses and
searching for college degrees and vocational/technical programs.
You can even access your personal academic transcript information.
Financial Aid
Starting December 1st, seniors file an FFAA (Florida Financial Aid
Application) online for Florida Bright Future Scholarships. Students
must apply during the last year in high school or will forfeit all
future eligibility for a Bright Futures Scholarship. Students may
use the award within three years of high school graduation. For more information about the Bright Futures Scholarship, please click on this link for a presentation prepared by the Everglades High School Guidance Department.

Bright Futures Application Process
The Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) is available
from
December 1st until Graduation of your senior year!
This on-line application
takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes to complete.
To apply for Bright Futures and
other Florida programs, go to:

- Click on "State Grants, Scholarships & Applications"
- Click on “Apply Here" at the top of the screen
- Click on "Initial State Student
Application"
- Proceed to "Application"
- Complete Application CAREFULLY!!
MAKE CERTAIN TO USE YOUR CORRECT SOCIAL SECURITY
NUMBER!
If your social number is incorrect or missing from
the school’s database, your Bright Futures application will
not be processed! It is advisable to check your transcript
information carefully!
Date of Birth, Social Security Number, Spelling
of Name, Gender and Race ALL MUST MATCH YOUR TRANSCRIPT!
Please see your Guidance Counselor as soon as possible if you need to correct any errors.
You must file the Florida Financial
Aid Application during your last year in high school, before graduation, or
you will forfeit all future eligibility for a Bright Futures Scholarship! Even
if you plan to attend college out of state, enter the military, or
have no immediate post-secondary plans now…

Bright Futures Florida Academic Scholars Award (FAS) — Award: 100%
tuition at a Florida Public Institution plus $300 per semester
Criteria: 15 credits of college prep academic courses. 3.5 weighted
GPA in required credits. 75 hours of Community Service. Min 1270
SAT or 28 ACT
Bright Futures Florida Medallion Scholars Award (FMS) — Award: 75%
tuition at a Florida Public Institution or 100% tuition at a Florida
Community College
Criteria: 15 credits of college prep academic courses. 3.0 weighted
GPA in required credits. Minimum 970 SAT or 20 ACT.
Bright Futures Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars Award (GSV) — Award: 75% tuition at a Florida Public Institution
Criteria: 15.5 credits of core credits required for high school graduation.
Three Vocational Job-Prep or Technology Education Program credits
in one vocational program with 3.5 GPA. Minimum test scores required.
