ASSESSMENTS/INTERPRETERS/TRANSLATIONS

Services are provided as follows:

·Interpreters to all schools and offices upon request to ensure appropriate communication between the Broward School System and the diverse population it serves;

·Assessors upon request to schools/centers in the Broward County School System for the administration and scoring of assessment instruments to determine students ' aural/oral language proficiency;

·Aural/oral language assessment training to team leaders, ESOL curriculum contacts, teachers, ESE specialist, etc.

·Written translation services of district and school forms and materials in the district 's major foreign languages: Haitian Creole, Portuguese, and Spanish.

ESOL Instructional Facilitators
The No Child Left Behind Act requires that school districts providing a language program under Title III help ensure that English Language Learners (ELL) students “attain English proficiency, develop high levels of academic attainment in English, and meet the same challenging State academic content and student achievement standards that all children are expected to meet” (Title III, Sec. 3102 Purposes, No Child Left Behind).

ESOL Instructional Facilitators provide the following services to schools and centers:

  1. Assist in implementing the ESOL program in accordance with the Florida ESOL META Consent Decree;
  2. Support student achievement through ELL student assessment and placement;
  3. Visit schools regularly and support student achievement through lesson modeling and instructional coaching of ESOL instructional strategies;
  4. Provide literacy and language development presentations for teachers of ELL students through faculty meetings, area curriculum council meetings, area advisory meetings, and presentations at Innovation Zone meetings;
  5. Assist administrators, teachers, guidance staff, registrars, and data processors for compliance with district, state, and federal program requirements;
  6. Assist with the monitoring of reading, writing, and math instruction of ELL students; and
  7. Assist with the interpretation and analysis of data.
