Character Education

The School Board of Broward County, Florida, is committed to the teaching of Character Education and has adopted eight core character traits as part of the Standards of Service Policy.  The core character traits are: Responsibility, Citizenship, Kindness, Respect, Honesty, Self-Control, Tolerance, and Cooperation.  Through the promotion of cross-cultural understanding and core character traits, youth are equipped with the tools to succeed in the global community in which they live.  Multicultural practices that spell success mean providing curriculum and activities that promote the eight core character traits adopted by the Board.

Definitions of the core character traits are:

Citizenship: Knowing, understanding, and displaying high regard for rules, laws, government, heritage, and those who have served and sacrificed for community and country.
Cooperation: Working with others to accomplish a common purpose.
Honesty: Being truthful, trustworthy, and sincere.
Kindness: Being helpful, thoughtful, caring, compassionate, and considerate.
Respect: Showing consideration, understanding, and regard for people, places, and things.
Responsibility: Meeting obligations by being reliable, accountable, and dependable to self and others.
Self-Control: Having discipline over one's behavior or actions.
