Our Rationale:

As technology is increasingly integrated into the curriculum and administrative processes of Broward County Public Schools, it is necessary to ensure that the hardware, software, and technology services required by the district are acquired efficiently, meet the functional requirements of the item's user community, meet the technical requirements of the applications at the lowest cost, while providing high levels of availability and reliability to the users.
Why are purchasing standards needed?

To ensure interoperability of all elements of the system.
To lower procurement costs.
To simplify maintenance, support, and asset management to reduce total cost of ownership.

Once standards are established, their use must be enforced through well-designed and documented purchasing procedures. A designated standards committee with representatives from all district technology users and departments has been created to establish these standards and monitor adherence to them on an ongoing basis.
