Field of Dreams from Parkland Life

Marjory Stoneman Douglas will say goodbye to three of its top seniors this year who will continue their baseball careers in college…or possibly in the Major Leagues. David Christensen, Brandon Holden and Sean Ochinko have already signed Division I-A scholarships. There’s been a lot of buzz about them this season. These three talented players not only grew up in Parkland, but also are friends who have played baseball together since the days of little league. Christensen, a five-tool outfielder for the Eagles, will be heading south to play from Miami next season. Eagles pitcher Holden signed with University of Florida and catcher Ochinko is off to LSU in the fall…that is depending on what the Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft has in store for these three young men in June.

With Major League Baseball scouts in attendance, Douglas beat Coconut Creek 11-0 on March 11, putting Douglas at 7-2 in the season as of press time. In one of the state’s best high school pitching match-ups of the regular season, Holden out-pitched Coconut Creek’s Matt Latos, who is considered one of the best pitching prospects in the nation.

Douglas took the victory in the bottom of the sixth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule after Ochinko hit a three-run homer. Christensen, Holden, and Ochinko will be busy the next few months preparing for graduation, working towards taking the Eagles all the way to the State Championship in Sarasota in May, followed by the MLB Draft in June.

Go Eagles and good luck!
