Harvey leads Douglas to win
His 303 yards include 2 big TD returns

CORAL SPRINGS Matt Harvey was hard to stop as he led Douglas to a 38-14 football victory over Coral Glades at Coral Springs High School on Saturday night.

Harvey, who had 303 total yards, scored on a 99-yard kickoff return to open the second half and added a 21-yard interception return as the Eagles rallied from a 7-0 deficit to score 38 unanswered points before Coral Glades' Kenny Terry scored on an 81-yard pass play from Joey Briganti with 15.7 seconds remaining in the game.

"I never scored on a return like that," said Harvey, a 5-11, 175-pound speedster who played wide receiver, cornerback and was on all of the special teams.

He also caught three passes for 63 yards, rushing for 14 additional yards. He also returned three punts for 29 yards.

"I just knew I had to do something big to get us going," he said.

Coral Glades got on the scoreboard on an unusual play. Jeff Roddick lined up for a 34-yard field goal and it was blocked by Ryan Long. The loose ball was scooped up by Santos Walcott, who scored from 16 yards out for a 7-0 lead with 8:09 remaining in the first half.

Douglas answered as Harvey returned the ensuing kickoff 77 yards to set up John Wallace's 1-yard run with 4:36 remaining in the first half.

Harvey returned the opening kickoff of the second half 99 yards to give the Eagles a 14-7 advantage and later in the quarter picked off a Nick Alfano pass and returned it 21 yards for the score with 3:23 remaining.

Alex Crew also scored on a 6-yard run in the third quarter as Douglas outscored the Jaguars 21-0 despite running just four plays from scrimmage to Coral Glades' 24.

Wallace padded the lead with an 11-yard scoring run and Bobby Pino kicked a 47-yard field goal to push the lead to 38-7.
