Adult &
Community Education
Overview
Adult education programs provide
adults ages 16 years and older who have less than a
high school education with opportunities to acquire
skills necessary to function more effectively in society
and the workplace of the 21st century. Through these
programs an adult learner can accomplish academic goals
as well as personal goals.
Programs offer basic reading,
writing, and math skills necessary to obtain or advance
in the workplace and to meet entrance requirements for
technical training programs. In addition to attaining
high-level employment skills, adult education programs
offer opportunities to study for successful completion
of the GED examination, English as a Second Language,
Citizenship Preparation, and to obtain skills to become
a better and more informed parent.
Adult education and literacy
programs provide instruction and skill obtainment to
enable adults to become more employable, productive,
and responsible citizens. Adult education provides lifelong
educational opportunities and services to adult learners
to address the unique needs of individuals and communities.
