This course will show you how to integrate and infuse good teaching strategies into Holocaust curriculum.  Along the way we will explore prejudice and bias, the state of the world that opened the door for Adolph Hitler to step through, and the use of journaling as a means of reflection and thought processing (and measuring understanding). You will also learn a number of strategies and activities that can be integrated into teaching students about the Holocaust.

Week 1: Ladder Of Prejudice

Week 2: Global Historical Timeline

Week 3: The Holocaust & Its Victims

Week 4: Propaganda  & Political Cartoons

Week 5: Resistance, Triangle: Upstander, Bystander, Perpetrator

Week 6: Aftermath: Displaced Person’s Camps, Nuremberg Trial, Accomplishments of Survivors, Lessons Learned

Specific Objectives

Participants will:

  • identify the Holocaust in historical context
  • learn to apply reading and writing strategies to Holocaust curriculum
  • locate instructional resources and materials and identify them as appropriate content for specific grade levels and educational settings

Implementation

Evidence that course content has been transferred to daily instruction might include:

  • Increased student achievement in the classroom
  • Increased student awareness of Holocaust

  • complete all assignments

  • complete Course Appraisal
  • score at least 80% or higher on post test

Prerequisites

Participants must possess the following computer skills and software to participate in this course:

  • an understanding of your computer’s operating system and software
  • the ability to access the Internet and knowledge of Internet search techniques
  • the ability to download and install files from the Internet
  • an up-to-date antivirus software package
