Bullying – It Takes Three

Participants will receive an in-depth overview of bullying and the key roles each of the three players hold within the bullying triangle to prevent and intervene. Particular emphasis will be placed as well on how to train students on this same information.

Specific Objectives

Participants will:

  • attain violence prevention and intervention information and guidelines related to bullying that may be utilized in their classrooms, schools, and community
  • develop an understanding of bullying, where it lies on the spectrum of violence, how prevalent it is, and the current trends (cyberbullying, sexting, etc).
  • provide the participants with skills and techniques (including Support Group Method) that they will use in their classroom and in their curriculum
  • learn the problem with bullying? This will include a discussion of some of our communities' most troubling trends in violence including cyberbullying and sexting
  • learn why we should care about bullying - what are the short and long term legal and emotional effects for all three parties?
  • learn what to do to prevent and intervene with bullying to help keep our students safe

Implementation

Evidence that course content has been transferred to daily instruction might include:

  • understanding of how bullying effects students and staff
  • implementing a school wide anti-bullying policy
  • recognizing the three roles: bully, victim, bystander
  • implementing classroom expectations of anti-bullying policy

  • score at least 80% or higher on post test

Prerequisites

Participants must possess the following computer skills and software to participate in this course:

  • an understanding of your computer’s operating system and software
  • the ability to access the Internet and knowledge of Internet search techniques
  • the ability to download and install files from the Internet
  • an up-to-date antivirus software package
