movie iconNow that you are familiar with the information required on the EP form, let's watch an EP meeting in progress. Clicking on the icon will launch the video. Please listen carefully as we sit in on the EP two-year review in Broward County, Florida for Ashiya, a third grade student who has been participating in a self-contained, gifted and high achievers program since first grade.

As you discovered during the meeting, there was no need for the psychologist to be present at this meeting since it was a review. The psychologist was present at the original meeting two years prior, but, Ashiya was not. Since the parents are generally not informed of the testing results prior to the EP meeting, it is advisable to not invite the student to the eligibility determination meeting.

In the event that the child does not qualify, this could become a very uncomfortable situation for all involved. It’s best to discuss with the parents how they will best share the information (whether the child is placed or not) with their child afterwards.
