  • Becoming a full-time student at Broward Virtual School means that you are interested in earning a Broward County high school diploma or enrolling in our full-time elementary or middle school program.
  • Full-time students are subject to Broward County School Board policies regarding pupil progression (policy 6000.1).
  • Full-time BVS students work on their courses from home or any other remote location, but are not registered as home school students with Broward County Public Schools.
  • Full-time elementary school students will be enrolled with K12 Florida teachers. K12 Florida is a virtual education provider approved by the Florida Deparment of Education and has been our partner since 2009.
  • Middle and high school students may choose courses facilitated by Broward Virtual School teachers or Florida Virtual School teachers.
  • Students in middle or high school grade levels who are currently registered with Broward County as home school students and choose to keep home school status may take courses at BVS but should not fill out the full-time application.
  • Private school students who seek part-time enrollment at BVS should not fill out the full-time application either.
Full-time BVS Students (Grades K-12)

Broward Virtual School offers a full-time enrollment option for students in grades K-12.  BVS serves as Broward County's virtual instruction program and satisfies the requirements set forth in Florida Statute 1002.45. Full-time BVS students are registered as public school students, take part in Florida Standards Assessments and other district testing, and have the opportunity to earn a standard Broward County diploma.  BVS partners with K12 Florida for elementary school curriculum and Florida Virtual School for middle and high school curriculum.

In order to be accepted as a full-time student with Broward Virtual School, students must meet the following criteria:

Eligibility for Grades 6-12:

1. Students must have demonstrated academic success in prior courses. Exceptions are made on an individual basis for students with medical conditions.

2. Students must have attained a minimum score on at least one of the following standardized tests in the prior school year:

  1. grade level criteria on the Florida Standards Assessment (English Language Arts section)
  2. grade level proficiency on an official standardized test administered by another public or private school system
  3. Concordant scores on the SAT or ACT

3. Students must reside in Broward County or Miami-Dade County.

4. Students with disabilities are not restricted from participation in the full-time program. Current Individual Education Plans (IEP) of student applicants who meet the entrance criteria will be evaluated on an individual basis in order to determine the appropriateness of the virtual education option. Parents must be part of the IEP review process.

5.  Per Florida Department of Education guidelines, district virtual schools are choice options and are not required to modify or change the instructional programs in which the integrity of the programs would be compromised.

6. Parents of current home schooled students must present a current student portfolio with clear evidence of work samples and a log of educational activities that can be used to establish grade level placement. Further, a current evaluation must be on file with the District's Home Education Department. Please call 754-321-2584 for further information about home education requirements.
