Dear Parents and Students, as the new principal of Boyd H. Anderson High School, it is my desire to work in partnership with community members and businesses to augment our school learning process. We invite you to visit us and to explore our school website to learn more about Boyd Anderson. Our professional learning communities work cooperatively to ensure that all students learn 21st century necessary skills to become productive leaders. Boyd H. Anderson High School offers exemplary programs such as Health and Wellness, International Baccalaureate, Culinary, World Languages, ROTC, and Nursing. In addition, our athletics department is second to none.
Starting this school year, students will be looped with an assistant principal, guidance counselor, and a clerical person. Each student will have a team of adults who will monitor the student’s progress. In addition, every student not achieving at grade level will be placed in double math and reading classes. Educational research demonstrates that students who engage in extended curricular activities achieve at higher academic levels. We will have math and reading tutoring after school and Saturday school for those students who have not passed the state test. A copy of the extended learning application is located on our website.
Parents, we ask for your assistance in ensuring that your student reads every day for at least one hour. Students who are proficient in reading do well in assessments such as SAT and PSAT. On our school website you will find information pertinent to tracking your student’s academic progress. We also encourage you to call and meet with us to discuss concerns you may have.
I also want to take this opportunity to stress to you the importance of school discipline. At the beginning of the school year you will receive a Student Code of Conduct book in which you will find important information. We ask for your assistance in making sure your student complies with guidelines such as proper dress code, being in class on time, and respect for one’s self and others. These are the expectations at Boyd H. Anderson High School and they will be strictly enforced. We ask you to support us in our efforts to teach your child(ren) that strong discipline and adherence to school rules and regulations is the cornerstone to maintaining a safe and secure environment for students and faculty, thus inducing a proper atmosphere for successful learning.
In closing, I look forward to meeting and working with you to ensure a successful and enjoyable high school experience for your student. Please do not hesitate to contact the grade level assistant principal or my office for any questions and or concerns you may have.
Sincerely,
Angel Almanzar, Principal
